FAQs

What is the Year-Round Beach Team?
Our year-round beach program is for athletes who want to commit to training and playing beach volleyball throughout the traditional beach “off-seasons” of fall and winter. It is also for athletes who are interested in competing out-of-area (Florida, Gulf Shores, Nationals, etc) in spring/summer and want to be prepared to compete at the highest level. Our year-round players also have the opportunity to represent Club W in Club v Club beach events against other year-round beach programs — simulating the NCAA Beach format of 5 pairs vs 5 pairs.

Is Year-Round for “beach-only” players?
You do not need to be a beach-only player to participate in our beach program. We highly encourage players to play both! As of right now, every single one of the top-12 American women (as rated by TruVolley) played indoor volleyball through high school and 5 out of 12 played both for at least a portion of their college career. We believe that indoor is beneficial for beach and beach is beneficial for indoor. And importantly, they are both FUN!

We also think it’s okay if you are a beach-only player if that’s what you love! Most players who are beach-only will want to purchase additional training packages in the off-season, especially if you don’t play high school indoor volleyball in the fall.

Is the Year-Round Beach Team already full?
Our teams are not already full. We encourage you to register to be evaluated. If you have questions or want to know where you stand going into evaluations, please don't hesitate to contact us directly. We are pretty open and transparent and are happy to discuss and help you through the process.

What does the Year-Round fee include?
The Year-Round club fee includes training from August through July. This includes about one practice per week (weather permitting) in the “off season” (Aug-Feb) and about 2 practices per week “in season” (Mar-Jul). Being part of the year-round beach program also makes you eligible for Club v Club events and to ensure that you have access to coaching at National-level events.

What additional costs are there for the Year-Round program?
The beach uniform and training gear is an additional cost. Tournament coaching is also an additional cost. Beach players have a strong individual preference on which tournaments to play, so while we offer coaching for an additional cost at the tournaments listed in the Year-Round Team Guide (see above)-it is not required to play in all of these tournaments.

We don’t mandate a specific uniform for most tournaments, but Club v Club events do require shorts and a tank as they are modeled after the NCAA format.

Are there other opportunities besides the Year-Round Program?
Yes, there are opportunities to train in the off season (August-January) on a first come, first served basis. Please reach out to clubwvb@gmail.com to arrange an initial evaluation. While we want to serve those who want to try the sport, we do prioritize commitment and dedication to training to create a consistent training group.

What if my indoor player wants to do cross-training in the spring/summer?
We will have packages available for indoor players who want to train in the spring and summer-mostly as an effort to improve ball control and physicality to complement their indoor game. Spring/summer training and coaching packages are available for players who can't commit to a year-round beach program or who don't want additional out-of-area travel.

What ages does the beach program serve?
We have players from age 10 through 18. Typically, we would have players as young as middle schoolers eligible for the Year-Round Program depending on commitment and skill level. Of course, it is not a one size fits all and evaluations will be made for each individual including those younger than middle school.

What are you looking for in a player?
We believe that a great volleyball team (indoor or a beach pair) needs three things: Physicality, Ball Control, and Teamwork. Our ideal player is Physical (big/fast/strong/athletic), highly Skilled (Serve, Pass, Set, Hit, Block, Dig), and is a great Teammate. Since nobody is perfect, we understand that players bring different strength and weaknesses to a team. Think about which of those aspects you can contribute to a team and bring your best self to an evaluation!
